Privacy Policy

Fern is built privacy-first. Your pet's health information lives on your iPhone and in your personal iCloud — not on our servers. This policy explains what we do and don't collect, both on this website and in the Fern app.

The short version

• Your pet's records stay on your device and in your iCloud. We can't see them.
• The AI that reads your vet documents runs entirely on your iPhone. Documents are never uploaded.
• We don't run accounts or servers for your health data.
• We never sell your data, and Fern has no ads or third-party ad tracking.

Information we collect

Waitlist email (this website). If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address so we can tell you when Fern is available. This is handled by our email provider, MailerLite. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.

Website operations. Our hosting provider (Vercel) processes standard technical logs — such as IP address and browser type — to serve and secure the site. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

In the app. The pet profiles, vaccinations, medications, weights, and documents you add are stored by Apple on your device and, if you have iCloud enabled, synced through your Apple ID. Fern does not receive or store this information.

On-device AI. When you scan a vet document, the text recognition and record extraction run on your iPhone using Apple Intelligence. The images and extracted records are not sent to Fern or any third party.

Subscriptions. If you subscribe, payment is processed by Apple through the App Store. We use a subscription-management provider (RevenueCat) to confirm your subscription status. We do not receive your payment card details.

Diagnostics.The app may collect anonymous crash and performance diagnostics to help us fix bugs. These never include your pet's health information, and you can disable app analytics sharing in your iOS settings.

How we use information

• To let you know when Fern launches and to respond to your messages.
• To operate, secure, and improve the website and app.
• To confirm subscription entitlements.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of providers, each handling only what's needed for their role: Apple (iCloud storage and App Store payments), MailerLite (waitlist email), Vercel (website hosting), and RevenueCat (subscription status). We do not sell or rent your information to anyone.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe from waitlist emails at any time.
• Delete your pet's data by removing it in the app or deleting the app; iCloud data is controlled through your Apple ID settings.
• Contact us to ask what waitlist information we hold about you, or to have it removed.

Children

Fern is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy as Fern evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
